Peppermint Ridge Love Walk

Debbie R. came to The Ridge over 36 years ago at the age of 13.  As she grew up, she learned skills that enable her to have a life filled with new experiences. She loves earning a paycheck at Ability Counts, horseback riding with the Ridge Riding club, and cooking at Aspen House.  She enjoys the camaraderie of fellow Ridgers and is working toward the goal of living on her own.

Founded in 1959, by Bob and Mary Jeffery, Peppermint Ridge provides a continuum of care so that each resident can be as independent as possible. It also gives residents the opportunity to be involved in many recreational and fitness activities. Over time, a sense of belonging develops, making Ridge their home. The average tenure of a resident is 17 years.

Saturday, November 4th. To some, it is another ordinary Saturday; however, to the residents and community members affiliated with Peppermint Ridge, a home providing care for people with developmental disabilities, it’s a day that celebrates remarkable progress and future possibilities.

That Saturday marks Peppermint Ridge’s “7th Annual 1K Love Walk and 5K Fun Run” fundraiser. Proceeds allow Peppermint Ridge to provide quality care to the 100 residents that live in the 11 Ridge homes throughout the Circle City. This year, a festival will immediately follow the Run complete with food, community booths, music, and fun.

The Love Walk raises money so that Ridgers can have a quality of life similar to other Corona residents. It takes place on Saturday November 4th, at The Shops at Dos Lagos [MAP] in Corona. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the 1k/5k walk/run begins at 8:30 a.m.

Event chairman, David Waltemeyer, adds, “This is a fun event for our community and the Ridge residents. It’s absolutely heartwarming to spend time with the residents and feel their love and appreciation. I invite everyone to come out and show their love and support for the Ridgers!”

The Walk also includes children’s activities, vendor booths, and breakfast courtesy of the Corona Firefighters. To help provide for the care of the Ridgers, anyone can sign up or donate money at LoveWalk.org.
