Awards are given monthly to students, however the Circle City Kiwanis decided that the teachers were "Terrific" also and needed a little extra to accomplish their goals. They decided to start a grant program that would also reward the teachers of the Terrific Kids. The $500 grants are awarded to teachers so that they may enrich their programs for students. To raise the funds needed for these grants, the Circle City Kiwanis Club holds a Casino Night and four Bingo Nights throughout the year. These fund raisers have enabled the Circle City Kiwanis Club to award Corona schools more than $22,000 in the past five years.
"The Terrific Kids schools were chosen by Circle City Kiwanis due to a relationship - principal was a member, teacher's spouse was a member or some other member had a close connection with the school. Sometimes these schools approached us. We have members of our club at the schools' monthly awards assemblies to let them know the community cares about them and their education, " explains Beth Kearney, Secretary of Circle City Kiwanis Club.
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. For more information on the Circle City Kiwanis Club please contact Beth Kearney at
