Operation Sweet Dreams was started in January 2009 by Cynthia Delgadillo. While shopping for Christmas gifts for children her family had "adopted", Delgadillo realized that not all children go to sleep in pajamas. When families are struggling to get by every month, things like rent, food and diapers come before things like pajamas, which no one at school sees. What started as a small project has grown into a cause. Operation Sweet Dreams is looking for community involvement in donating pajamas and also by helping to refer those who could benefit from the program. This past year, Operation Sweet Dreams has gifted pajama packs (consisting of a new pair of pajamas, a toothbrush and a new book) to children at low-income elementary schools, children at the Circle of Hope Homeless Shelter, children from the Angel Tree Ministries program and several independent referrals.
"Our goal is to spread the word about our cause and we are hoping that those who can donate a pair of pajamas will do so. How awesome would it be to know that every child in Corona was sleeping in their own pair of pajamas? Now that would be amazing!" says Operation Sweet Dreams founder Christina Delgadillo.
To raise funds and collect pajamas, Operation Sweet Dreams will be hosting pajama drives in February. Supporters can bring in a new pair of pajamas or they can print the flyer from their website and bring it with them to the restaurant. A percentage of their meal will be donated to Operation Sweet Dreams.
