Mission

Today, our mission is to protect public health by providing the highest quality water and electric service, as well as efficient water reclamation. We take great pride in being able to serve the community and always strive to provide our customers with the highest quality service. As such, we are constantly looking for new and more efficient ways to increase the quality and quantity of our water supply.

History

In 1886, developer Robert Taylor persuaded his partners, Rimpau, Joy, Garretson and Merrill to form the South Riverside Land and Water Company. With his partners, Taylor raised approximately $110,000 to purchase roughly 12,000 acres of good agricultural land. Taylor, realizing the importance of water for the developing community, raised additional funds which were used to secure future water rights for the area. On July 13, 1896, residents voted to incorporate the community and to change the name from South Riverside to Corona. Corona is the Spanish word for crown, in honor of the City's circular Grand Boulevard. In 1897, the Corona City Water Company was incorporated for domestic water distribution.

In 1964, the City of Corona purchased the assets of the Corona City Water Company, creating a municipally owned utility. The department grew from a division of the Public Works Department to the City of Corona Water Utilities Department:  a state-of-the-art department that maximizes the City and State's natural resources. On April 4, 2001, Corona's City Council passed Resolution No. 2001-25, which established a municipally owned utility. The council's action authorized the City Manager to take all necessary steps to create and establish a municipally owned utility to provide these services. In December 2002, the department changed its name to the City of Corona Department of Water & Power to incorporate the increased services to the community.

Stage 2 Alert

Stop the Drop

Corona, it's time to "Stop the Drop!" Water levels in the State of California are low, and getting lower every day. Current water levels are displayed at the Metropolitan Water District's website, as well as past water levels.

Now, more than ever, we need to conserve water. The adoption of Corona's Drought Ordinance helps to prohibit certain water wasting activities that will help all of us do our part to save water. Here are some of the things we all need to do to save water:
