Annual Water Quality Report Issued

The Corona Department of Water and Power (CDWP) is committed to providing our customers with the highest quality product and service. The Consumer Confidence Report is an example of CDWP’s ability to deliver to our customers the best quality drinking water that meets or exceeds health standards set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and California Department of Public Health. The Consumer Confidence Report is issued every June and represents a snapshot of the water quality from the previous year. Not only does the report detail where our water comes from, but it explains what our water contains and how it compares to the USEPA and California Department of Public Health standards.

CDWP believes that it is important for our customers to know how water is delivered to their tap and how reclaimed water is created. Educating the community on how water travels from the source to their tap is an important step in helping our customers understand the value of water. To demonstrate our commitment to water conservation, CDWP developed and built our reclaimed water system in 2006. Substantial progress has been made since then; the City of Corona currently has 227 reclaimed water connections, which used approximately 3.16 million gallons per day in 2011.

During 2011, our reclaimed water system produced 1.2 billion gallons of reclaimed water. Six agricultural customers, three private businesses, 27 Landscape Maintenance Districts, one church, three schools, one construction site, and El Cerrito Park were using reclaimed water. These connections used an additional 65 million gallons of reclaimed water per year. Soon, most parks and schools in Corona will be using this valuable source of reclaimed water to irrigate landscape areas. In 2012, CDWP will be expanding our reclaimed water system with three new projects – the Masters Drive Extension, Stagecoach Park and Butterfield Park Reclaimed Waterline and City Park.

In addition to providing our customers with information about our conservation efforts, the Consumer Confidence Report announced a new program – quarterly facility tours for our customers. A lot goes on behind the scenes to provide our customers with the best quality drinking water at an affordable price. To attend an upcoming tour, customers can reserve a spot by contacting our Water Resources group at (951) 736-2234 or by email at StopTheDrop@discovercorona.com. You must be at least 18 years old and a customer of the Corona Department of Water and Power to attend.
