Bicycles for Children along with the Corona community was able to assemble 485 bicycles on Dec. 21, 2013 at El Cerrito Middle School for less fortunate and deserving children in the Corona area.
The local non-profit, Bicycles for Children, aims to donate bicycles and helmets to elementary students in the Corona Norco Unified School District as well as some surrounding districts. Providing children with bicycles who may not otherwise get the chance, will now get to experience reaching the milestone of learning to ride a bike. It will also provide them with a great physical fitness activity.
By Partnering with local organizations including Corona-Norco YMCA and Huffy Bicycle Company, who provides bicycles at cost, Bicycles for children was able to provide a total of 485 bicycles this past December. Countless community members including the Corona Fire Fighters Association came together to assemble all 485 bicycles and then delivered them to the corresponding schools. Administrators and teachers are then tasked with choosing bicycle recipients. Students must come from an impoverished home in which a bicycle would not likely be purchased as a gift.
Funding for the project came from local businesses, organizations and private donations and 100 percent of the proceeds are used to purchase bicycles. If you are interested in finding out more about the local non-profit, Bicycles for Children or would like to donate please visit them online.
