As kids, my grandfather used to always tell my siblings and I to always keep a $2 bill in our wallet, so we’d never come down to our last dollar. I’ve kept that mindset and whenever I do come across a $2 bill in tender exchange and I have a habit of folding it up nicely and slipping into a back pocket of my wallet remembering that small lesson from my grandfather.
Lately, we’ve noticed the infiltration of $2 bills in the Corona marketplace and there’s a fine explanation. The Greater Corona Valley Chamber of Commerce has initiated their $2 Tuesday initiative in which Chamber and community members are encouraged to use $2 bills when purchasing items on Tuesdays. The waters of the legendary fountain were said to bring eternal youth and many explorers spent their lives searching for it. The Corona Relay for Life is hosting its 14th year and the coordinators for this year’s event are making it the biggest and best one yet. The Relay will be held May 18-19 starting at 9 a.m. at Santana Park [MAP] in Corona.
The Relay for Life is an organized, overnight community fundraising walk to help find the cure for cancer. Teams of people camp out around a track and cheer each other on as they take their turn walking. Individuals can also participate. There is food, games, activities and entertainment for 24 hours of fun and celebration. Continue reading…

Don’t throw hazardous household waste items away in your trash can, let the Riverside County Waste Management Department dispose of them for you.
The Household Hazardous Waste Collection event is coming to the City of Corona’s Corporation Yard next week. This is a great time to recycle your old paint, used oil, chemicals, batteries, and propane tanks. Help protect our environment and make the City of Corona safe for our families. This event is open to all Riverside County and Corona residents.
Electronic waste is also accepted. Consequently, this is also a good time to recycle old televisions, computer monitors, or other electronic devices. Continue reading…
The Blue Star Mothers H.O.M.E. (Hearts of Mothers Embraced) chapter is a Corona-based non-profit group of mothers who have sons or daughters active or honorably discharged from any of the U.S. military branches. They are active in the community through fundraising to send care packages to deployed service members as well as serving as a close network of military moms who support each other through the rigors of having loved ones deployed in service to our country.
To honor and celebrate Mother’s Day, the Blue Star Mothers are hosting an event for their fellow blue star mothers and gold star mothers (those who have lost a child while actively serving). Continue reading…

Want to see how you can have a California-friendly garden? The City of Corona is committed to water use efficiency and resource conservation. The Department of Water and Power (DWP) designed and built the City Hall California-Friendly Demonstration Garden to save water and educate residents and visitors about California-friendly landscaping. We’re celebrating the Demonstration Garden and we want you to join us! The Grand Opening of our California-Friendly Demonstration Garden at City Hall will be held Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 8:00 a.m.to noon. in the City Hall parking lot [MAP].

The Thrill! The Fun! The Excitement! The Spelling Bee! The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee to be exact. Corona High School Performing Arts is presenting this Tony Award-winning musical this month. This particular bee is not just about the spelling. The story, written by Rebecca Feldman and Rachel Sheinkin, follows the experience of six spellers ages 10-12. It brings to light the fun and the pressure of being a kid; from bullying, divorce, and social taboos to home schooling and puberty. This show pulls no punches on the woes of a middle schooler. The annual Mach One Mud Run is not your ordinary event! This approximately 5k run features fun as well as challenging obstacles to test your mental and physical stamina as well as lots of MUD! This year’s theme is “Start to Finish” honoring the 100th Anniversary of the Corona Road Race. There will be two categories and 3 prizes given in each of those categories. The first category is a General category capturing “Life’s beginnings and endings, starts and finishes,” and the second category is the Circle City Award which is all about cars in honor of the Corona Road Race.
