$2 Tuesdays for Local Economy

two-dollar-bills

As kids, my grandfather used to always tell my siblings and I to always keep a $2 bill in our wallet, so we’d never come down to our last dollar. I’ve kept that mindset and whenever I do come across a $2 bill in tender exchange and I have a habit of folding it up nicely and slipping into a back pocket of my wallet remembering that small lesson from my grandfather.

Lately, we’ve noticed the infiltration of $2 bills in the Corona marketplace and there’s a fine explanation.  The Greater Corona Valley Chamber of Commerce has initiated their $2 Tuesday initiative in which Chamber and community members are encouraged to use $2 bills when purchasing items on Tuesdays. Every Drop Counts!

fix a leak a

Sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense Program, Fix a Leak Week is March 18th through March 24th. Fix a Leak Week is a time to encourage Corona residents to improve the water efficiency of their homes and business by checking for and fixing leaks. Fix a Leak Week reminds us of the easy steps we can take to help save water in the community now and for future generations.

In an average home every year, leaks can account for more than 10,000 gallons of water – the amount of water it takes to wash 270 loads of laundry! Continue reading…

Modern-Day Slavery… In Our Own Backyard

sex slavery

Far too often we think of human trafficking as a crime that occurs across the world in other countries, but it’s actually happening here, in our own backyard.  In California, many vulnerable women and children are held against their will and forced to sell their bodies. The victims are often girls as young as 12 who are sexually exploited for the financial gain of human traffickers. They are afraid for their lives and abused – sexually, physically, and mentally.

Human trafficking is a modern form of slavery. It involves controlling a person through force, fraud, or coercion to exploit the victim for forced labor, sexual exploitation, or both. Continue reading…

Doggie Doo’s and Don’ts

Will Rogers once said, “No man can be condemned for owning a dog. As long as he has a dog, he has a friend; and the poorer he gets, the better friend he has”. While dogs may be man’s best friend, as pet owners and residents we have a responsibility to our environment and each other to clean up after our pets when they defecate.

Residents take pride in the City we call home.  Unfortunately, pet waste along our walk-ways and parks is a disgusting reality which many of us encounter while enjoying our neighborhoods on a regular basis. Left by irresponsible pet owners, these “unexpected surprises” diminish that pride we have in our community and hamper the quality of life in Corona. Continue reading…
