I was impressed by your commentary on our research of the site. Our initial records of Mr. Ganahl's acute dimentia was relayed to us by a librarian in the historical archives of the Corona Public Library. When the son of Mr. Gana wrote us directly, it was a boon for information, and his son is accurate on the details of the fire.

The most important detail left out of your commentary is that the fire wasn't in the 1980s. I first visited the site shortly after the first fire in 1999. The accidental fire. Later, an arsonist returned to finish the job. Finally, CFD came in with controlled fires to clear out brush and remaining structures.

The chimes we verified, though it isn't chimes, it was musical, and had an actual tune. Likewise, there are bells that sound at odd increments into the early hours of the morning, sounding off in strange numerically such as nine tolls at one-thirty AM, or thirteen tolls at two-fifteen AM.

We recovered information that construction will not be continued on the site as it apparently is a moderately strong fault line area and quake risks are too much for construction investments.

It was an honor to see our old group's name in use once again.

If you are ever interested in hearing further theories about the hauntings on 4000 a. Mainstreet I'd love to share information.

Until then, thank you.

Other than vaguely indicating that this project is located on the "southwestern side of Green River Road and Paseo Grande", where, exactly, is it? Are they building in the ravine? On that hilltop that currently has no water/electrical? Most of the homes in that area now are on septic systems - will the city be bearing the cost of sewer line extensions, or will everyone else's (already high) sewer costs just go higher? Will the unincorporated chunks of that area now be incorporated and contributing tax dollars to city services? And what about fire services? That's a high fire-danger area. Is the city prepared to protect another 249 residences?

249 new homes in that area. Oy. I used to live dead center in that part of town. Just about every day I thank my lucky stars I sold my house there and moved elsewhere in Corona. A large reason we moved was we couldn't stand the amount of traffic coming off Paseo Grande onto Ontario. It was like living on the median strip of a freeway. That's a residential area, and yet it handles a TON of area traffic trying to get around the 91, either to get into town or to divert to the 15. It's ill-prepared to handle a large new development.

This ought to be interesting . . .

Good morning Dan,

My name is Brian Champion and I work for the City of Corona managing the Corona Cruiser service. Thank you for your suggestion. Going to the beach is definitely another way to have fun under the sun. A program offering trips to the beach using public transportation is a great idea. It’s a cost effective way for passengers to get to the beach, enables those without an alternative mode of transportation access to the beach, and is good for the environment by reducing automobile emissions by combining multiple automobile trips into a single bus trip. The challenge we face is the cost of providing the bus trips. We are in the final step of budget preparation for next fiscal year (July 2013 to June 2014) and anticipate a no-growth plan for the Corona Cruiser. In fact, funding has been so tight that in July 2010 we had to cut 25% of our existing bus service, and still have not been able to add back the service we had to eliminate.

In the past, the Parks Department provided similar trips to various destinations. However, due to the high cost and low turnout, the program was placed on hiatus.

Dan, there is some good news. The City is well served by two Metrolink stations – North Main Corona and West Corona stations. Metrolink operates two morning and two afternoon trains to the beach every Saturday and Sunday. The train station at San Clemente Pier is a short walk to the beach. Currently, a weekend pass is available for $10; passes are available at ticket vending machines at the train station, and you can find more information at www.metrolinktrains.com.

Again, thank you for taking the time to make the suggestion. If you try the train, let me know how your experience was; you can contact me directly via telephone at (951) 279-3763 or email at brianc@ci.corona.ca.us.

Regards,

Brian Champion
