There is a Free Appliance Disposal service available to Corona. With just a simple phone call you can have your working or non-working appliances hauled away for free at your convenience.

Kitchen appliances are often thrown out onto the curb for the garbage collectors to pick up. From there they are taken to landfills where they take up space, rust, and can expel harmful waste including certain substances that if let into the environment and can contribute to destroying the protective ozone layer. National Senior Health & Fitness day is coming up and its goal is to help promote keeping older Americans healthy and fit. Local Organizations all over the country will host a variety of health and fitness related activities based on the interests of older adults in their communities and Corona is no different!

Valencia Terrace [MAP] is hosting its third Annual Health and Wellness Expo in honor of National Senior Health & Fitness Day and the event will be held Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lawn Mower Exchange Program Provides 75% Savings

Southland residents can now register to get up to 75 percent in savings with the South Coast AQMD’s popular lawn mower exchange program.

Now in its 11th year, the program does good for the wallet and air quality by allowing residents to trade an old, highly polluting gas-powered lawn mower for a high-performance, environmentally friendly cordless electric model.

This year’s program will have 4,000 mowers available for trade-in. SCAQMD encourages residents to act fast and secure a spot at one of four events being held this year in Long Beach, Pasadena, Riverside and Anaheim.

Entrants Wanted for Corona’s “Main Street USA Independence Day Parade”

Bands, floats, and marching units are wanted for the City of Corona’s 2013 “Main Street USA Independence Day Parade,” taking place on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. The parade route will proceed north on Main Street, beginning at Pueblo Avenue and ending at Olive Street. This is a community parade thus no judging will take place nor awards distributed.

Entry Forms are available online on the Parks and Community Services Department webpage at www.DiscoverCorona.com or at the City of Corona Parks & Community Services Department, 400 S. Vicentia Ave., Suite 225 in Corona City Hall [MAP].

Confidence Renewed in Corona Marketplace

A brand new housing development project is under way in Corona for the first time in more than five years showing huge steps forward in our local economy.

After being put on hold since the initial Specific Plan for the Sierra Bella Project had been approved in 2005, the Sierra Bella Specific Plan has gone back to Planning and Housing Commission and to City Council this April and has completed the entitlement process. The project will now move into plan check.

The plans provide Corona with a new gated community off the southwestern side of Green River Road and Paseo Grande. Continue reading...

Cinco de Mayo Parade & Fiesta at City Park

Cinco de Mayo is this Sunday and Corona will be celebrating with the 41^st annual celebration and parade. The parade will begin making its way down Sixth Street from Merrill Street to Rimpau Avenue at 10 a.m. this Saturday. An assortment of dancers, classic cars, marching units, and school children will be participating in the parade.

Cinco de Mayo parades and celebrations have a long history in Corona, but they became an annual event starting in 1972 when community leaders agreed to organize it annually with the idea of raising money to award a scholarship to a graduating high school senior. Continue reading...

Women’s Improvement Clubhouse Celebrates it’s Centennial!

Women’s Improvement Club of Corona (WICC) is one of the oldest non-profit clubs in Corona and it’s clubhouse on the corner of Main and Eleventh [MAP] is Celebrating its Centennial this Saturday.

The club was started in 1888 and since then has had a deep history in the establishment of Corona. This Saturday, May 4, 2013 along with the Corona Historic Preservation Society’s Vintage Home Tour the WICC will be commemorating the 100 year anniversary of their clubhouse and will be open to view along the Vintage Home Tour route.
