ICON Performing Arts Workshops

“A million lights they flicker there
A million hearts beat quicker there”
The Broadway Melody

Are your kids dreaming of performing live on stage? On Jan. 18th, ICON Performing Arts began producing its multi-week afterschool workshops at The Young Americans’ studios in Corona. During the workshops students age 5 to 18 divide into three peer groups (5-8, 9-11, 12-18) and then rotate between acting, voice, and dance classes each week. As part of the classes they learn musical numbers, dance routines, and skits that will be incorporated into a themed musical-variety show for family and friends at the end of the session.

One thing that makes the ICON workshops special is the staff of instructors and directors. The directors have all had experience teaching, performing, and directing internationally as part of The Young Americans International Music Outreach Tours. This experience may then be shared in Corona; as many of The Young Americans current cast participate in the classes each week. ICON’s goal is to make students stronger and more versatile performers while also strengthening their character and confidence.

Bruce Sampson, director and developer for ICON has served as an associate director for The Young Americans for the past few years. He says: “There are so many exciting things in the works. This summer, we’ll bring The Young Americans Summer Camp World Tour to Corona along with workshops and auditions for the 5th annual SOCAL ICON Vocal Competition and Concert Event.”
