The Corona Relay for Life is hosting its 14th year and the coordinators for this year’s event are making it the biggest and best one yet. The Relay will be held May 18-19 starting at 9 a.m. at Santana Park [MAP] in Corona.
The Relay for Life is an organized, overnight community fundraising walk to help find the cure for cancer. Teams of people camp out around a track and cheer each other on as they take their turn walking. Individuals can also participate. There is food, games, activities and entertainment for 24 hours of fun and celebration. Continue reading…

The Household Hazardous Waste Collection event is coming to the City of Corona’s Corporation Yard next week. This is a great time to recycle your old paint, used oil, chemicals, batteries, and propane tanks. Help protect our environment and make the City of Corona safe for our families. This event is open to all Riverside County and Corona residents.
Electronic waste is also accepted. Consequently, this is also a good time to recycle old televisions, computer monitors, or other electronic devices. Continue reading…

Once again the Corona firefighters have gathered a team and will be participating in the Annual Inland Empire Arthritis Walk, which is being held at Dos Lagos on Saturday June 1, 2013. This will be the third continuous year the Arthritis Foundation has held the walk in Corona in large part because of local support given by businesses and citizens of Corona.
Arthritis affects nearly 1 in 5 people including more than 300,000 children in the United States that have been diagnosed with Juvenile Arthritis. One example is John Brown; a Corona Fire Fighter who was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in 2008. Continue reading…
The Blue Star Mothers H.O.M.E. (Hearts of Mothers Embraced) chapter is a Corona-based non-profit group of mothers who have sons or daughters active or honorably discharged from any of the U.S. military branches. They are active in the community through fundraising to send care packages to deployed service members as well as serving as a close network of military moms who support each other through the rigors of having loved ones deployed in service to our country.
To honor and celebrate Mother’s Day, the Blue Star Mothers are hosting an event for their fellow blue star mothers and gold star mothers (those who have lost a child while actively serving). Continue reading…

The City of Corona Department of Water & Power has contracted with Global Water Resources to perform an audit of our water meters. Staff from Global Water will be in the field starting on Monday, April 15th; work is expected to last about three months. Global’s staff will obtain GPS data points using iPads, and take other information about the water meters for the purpose of the field audit. They will also take pictures of the meter and its surroundings for location purposes.

For this week’s Foodie Friday adventure I took a trip down Burger Lane, more commonly known as Sixth Street. For this experience I consumed (not entirely) four different cheeseburgers from four classic burger joints, and get this: I did all in one day. It’s a bit extreme, I know, but it was definitely a delicious experience.
Now the craziest part about the experience, besides all the looks when people noticed I didn’t finish a perfectly good burger, was that all four restaurants all served me an excellent version of just about the same burger. I was consistently served a delicious burger no matter where on Sixth Street I stopped. Continue reading…

The Department of Water and Power (DWP) designed and built the City Hall California-Friendly Demonstration Garden to save water and educate residents and visitors about California-friendly landscaping. We’re celebrating the Demonstration Garden and we want you to join us! The Grand Opening of our California-Friendly Demonstration Garden at City Hall will be held Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 8:00 a.m.to noon. in the City Hall parking lot [MAP].

The Corona Rotary will be hosting its fourth Annual Lobsterfest next month and they expect to see a sell-out crowd of 1,000 people. The evening’s event will be held at Fender Museum [MAP] on May 18, 2013. The dinner is an all you can eat affair that includes steak and Maine lobster flown in for the event, along with all the usual trimmings
Corona Rotary is part of Rotary International and is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) local service club organization that has been active in the community since 1923. Since that time, it has contributed more than $2 million to numerous local, national, and international programs. Continue reading…
