On the morning of September 11th, 2001 New York Firefighter Stephen Siller was heading for a day of golf with his brothers after getting off the late shift at Squad 1, Park Slope, Brooklyn. When he heard the news that the first plane had hit the World Trade Center, he immediately drove back to Squad 1, picked up 60 lbs of gear, and headed to the Twin Towers to help. Finding the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel closed to traffic, Fire Fighter Siller strapped his gear to his back and ran through the Tunnel to the Twin Towers. It was a trip that the husband and father of five wouldn’t return from.
To honor his memory and continue his dedication to service, the Stephen Siller Foundation hosts “Tunnel to Towers” Runs every year in New York as well as other locations
throughout the world. This year, the Blue Star Mothers H.O.M.E. are honored to bring the event to Corona.
On Saturday, September 8th at the Shops at Dos Lagos [MAP], the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run/Walk/Roll will start at 7:30 a.m. Registration is $25 and includes an event t-shirt with on-line registration. Proceeds will help the Foundation keep Stephen’s Siller philosophy of “Doing Good” alive by building smart homes for severely injured first responders, burn victims, and military personnel.
