Garden bugs got you down? Then mark your calendars for June 1and be sure to join the South Corona Community Gardeners for an old fashioned seed swap and lecture on organic pest control.
At 9 a.m. activities will start with a lesson on bug control. Be sure to bring a lawn chair and come to learn about how to control the “bad” bugs in your vegetable garden organically and safely from a master gardener. Immediately following at 10 a.m. there will be a good old fashioned seed swap! Feel free to stay and swap seeds with fellow gardeners.
How a seed swap works:
- Bring your seeds (Preferably open pollinated, heirloom varieties of edibles and flowers.

Maybe you’re looking for a lively way to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, go on an unforgettable date night, learn a new skill, or just plain want to do something different. One of the hidden gems of Corona, Get Cooking 101 won’t be hidden for much longer. They are moving to The Crossings and are opening a bistro! In case you don’t know, Get Cooking 101 is a fun and fabulous hands on cooking experience that’s been nuzzled away on 6th Street for about 3 years. National Senior Health & Fitness day is coming up and its goal is to help promote keeping older Americans healthy and fit. Local Organizations all over the country will host a variety of health and fitness related activities based on the interests of older adults in their communities and Corona is no different!
Valencia Terrace [MAP] is hosting its third Annual Health and Wellness Expo in honor of National Senior Health & Fitness Day and the event will be held Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event is open to the public to meet sponsors and vendors and enjoy fitness demonstrations as well as guest speakers throughout the event. Continue reading…

Book-a-Palooza is Tuesday, June 4, 2013 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Be at the Corona Public Library [MAP] to kick off the Summer Reading Program, Reading is SOOOOO Delicious! There’s a Summer Reading Program for every age, so the whole family can register. While you’re there be sure to stop at the Sweet Stop food truck and pick up a corn dog or a funnel cake (or both). You’ll have your chance to visit with Corona Fire and Police Department. Kids can do a craft or have your face painted with the Corona Art Association. Southland residents can now register to get up to 75 percent in savings with the South Coast AQMD’s popular lawn mower exchange program.
Now in its 11th year, the program does good for the wallet and air quality by allowing residents to trade an old, highly polluting gas-powered lawn mower for a high-performance, environmentally friendly cordless electric model.
This year’s program will have 4,000 mowers available for trade-in. SCAQMD encourages residents to act fast and secure a spot at one of four events being held this year in Long Beach, Pasadena, Riverside and Anaheim.

Bands, floats, and marching units are wanted for the City of Corona’s 2013 “Main Street USA Independence Day Parade,” taking place on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. The parade route will proceed north on Main Street, beginning at Pueblo Avenue and ending at Olive Street. This is a community parade thus no judging will take place nor awards distributed.
Entry Forms are available online on the Parks and Community Services Department webpage at www.DiscoverCorona.com or at the City of Corona Parks & Community Services Department, 400 S. Vicentia Ave., Suite 225 in Corona City Hall [MAP].
