In the Summer of 2011, the Corona Heritage Foundation decided to explore what could be done to enhance the presence of the arts around Heritage Park even more than what already existed. The decision was made to create a regional Arts Colony that: increased the number of Artist in Residence studios, develops a well respected art gallery (with more to be created over time), and has a strong educational and outreach focus to the local community and Southern California.
The Arts Colony at Corona Heritage Park is making plans for the next art show entitled “The Great Outdoors,” which will be on display from June 23rd through August 11th. For the new show, original artwork from Southern California artists was accepted for entry on June 12 and 13 at the Arts Colony gallery; located at 510 W. Foothill Blvd. in Corona [MAP].
Artists entered up to three eligible works in a variety of media. All art work was to meet the criteria and specifications as contained in the prospectus and guidelines which were available at the organization’s website TheArtsColony.org or directly from the gallery. The works are to represent the artists’ interpretations of “The Great Outdoors.”
This is a juried show with cash prizes for four overall winners—Best of Show $250, First $200, Second $150 and Third Place $100, and ribbons for place winners in media categories. The show committee may also award several special prizes. The juror is fine art photographer Bob Killen from La Mirada, CA. The juror will also attend the reception to provide critiques for those artists interested in this additional feature.
The reception for the show will take place on Sunday June 24th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the gallery and is open to the public. The reception will provide the opportunity to view the artworks, converse with the artists, celebrate the prize winners and enjoy the creative environment. Light refreshments and entertaining surprises will be provided. The reception will also provide the opportunity to learn more about the educational programs, events and art demonstrations presented by The Arts Colony throughout the year.
